In addition, we will examine the relationship between housing policies and urban spatial dynamics, economic growth, environmental sustainability and social equity.

This course focuses on the social, political, economic and legal systems that underpin the private and public housing sector in Australia. The issues relating to tenure of social housing are examined in relation to Australian legislation and case law. The role of federal, state and local government agencies in the management of housing is also considered. The course examines current developments in Australian housing policy with a particular focus on the relationship between land use planning and policy, urban renewal, affordable rental housing, homelessness services and emergency accommodation for people

This course examines the housing policy in OECD and selected countries in the past, present and future, and explores how the factors that affect housing demand and supply, as well as policies to address those factors, are intertwined. The course explores how government initiatives have been used to increase the supply of affordable housing; what role federal policies have played in strengthening or weakening local policies; and why development of new technologies such as mobile phones are important to our knowledge of demand-side factors
