This course is designed to introduce students to the basics of construction specifications, plans, and building codes. Students will learn how to read and interpret specifications and plans, review the structure of the ASCE Code of Standard Practice for Residential Building Construction (ASCE 7-10), and evaluate code requirements for building systems based on national standards and recommendations. Through a series of presentations, discussions, case studies, and problem solving exercises, students will examine the role of specification writers in constructing buildings. Prerequisites:
