It will cover the history, theory and practice of juvenile justice in Canada, including concepts from other nations. It will include a broad description of the judicial system, including its role in overseeing the administration of justice. The course will also provide a general overview of sentencing options available for both adults and youth.

Particular emphasis will be given to the structure of the system, and its relation to the criminal legal system, government and society, and families. This class will utilize a variety of law related sources including legal opinions, case law, statutory provisions, and other materials as required to evaluate juvenile justice issues in Maryland
