Course Overview This course examines early European contact with the New World, 1492-1650. We will examine English exploration and settlement in America from the beginning of the exploration of America by Christopher Columbus in 1492 to the final settlement of American settlers in 1865. We will study the relationship between English and Native Americans, also known as colonialism and imperialism. Readings and assignments are based on a reading list which will be posted each week. All readings are available online at Blackboard
