In this course, students will examine the evolution of health information technology, beginning with the original development of electronic medical records (EMRs) in the late 1960s. Students will examine emerging applications for patient care and health care delivery that are emerging from the present efforts to integrate and exchange medical information. The course also examines how patient privacy is affected by EMRs as well as how patients may benefit from various technologies to advance their own personal care.
