Digital imaging is a key part of every photographer’s toolbox. This course provides an introduction to the basic principles of digital image processing and printing. It covers camera settings, lens choice, film types, scan techniques, colour management and file preparation.
The course looks at ways that you can use your digital images for print or digital display. Topics covered include:
setting up a computer for digital image manipulation
choosing the right type of film
use of a scanner to create high quality scans

Course Purpose: The objective of this course is to introduce students to fundamental concepts and techniques of digital imaging. This course will provide an introduction to the various types of digital images, their characteristics, and important characteristics in relation to scientific image processing. Fundamental concepts and terminology will be presented using a hands-on approach. For this reason, the class requires the use of computers. A variety of hardware and software platforms will be discussed including both desktop and cloud-based platforms. Prerequisites: None Course Structure: Lectures
