This unit introduces the students to the basic concepts of environment design, and covers the topics on environmental planning, architecture, and landscape design. The lectures will provide a solid foundation in design fundamentals, techniques and practice. The students will also be able to apply the knowledge acquired to their design projects through project-based learning. By the end of this unit, students will be able to: Identify important issues in environment design

Description: This course will provide students with an introduction to planning and design of environmental systems, incorporating sustainability considerations. The project will focus on the integration of the four principles of sustainability: social, economic, environmental and cultural in addressing issues related to human-environment interactions. The course will also emphasize the application of planning tools and techniques to identify challenges and opportunities associated with sustainable design for a variety of scales including local, regional, national and global levels. 3 Credit Hours: This course is a requirement for all architecture and interior design students. The emphasis of the course is to develop an understanding of environmental theory, the relationship between environment and society, and the cultural role of architecture as a form of public communication.
