1 Course Description EG418FT is a directed research course offered in conjunction with a more general research course. The first course provides the framework for the other two courses, which require that you design and perform a flight test program. This introductory course covers the basics of aircraft performance and flight testing. In addition to covering the fundamentals, it will give you ample opportunity to apply your knowledge by designing and performing your own flight test program. The goal of the course is to provide students with a thorough understanding of the design and operation of flight testing. In order to achieve this goal, students will analyze systems, concepts and components in flight-testing from various technical disciplines (Avionics, Flight Control, Structures and Materials) and apply this understanding to analyzing real world problems in conjunction with Experimental Procedures. Students will also learn about key parts of an aircraft such as the fuselage, wing, rotorcraft structure and engines.

The EG418FT offers a one-sided, narrowbody, fully-electric propulsion system with no exhaust after-treatment. This design features the use of direct current (DC) electric propeller aircraft engines in lieu of conventional piston or turbine configurations.
