Welcome! Hi! My name is Dr. Chris Lim and I’m the instructor for EG345 in the Materials Science and Engineering Department at Stanford University. I work on the design of novel materials with particular emphasis on their properties, structure, and fabrication as well as their synthesis, characterization, and application. Here’s a brief overview of what we will be covering during the semester.

1. Students will be able to distinguish between elements and compounds using the periodic table of elements, the molar mass, atomic weights, and empirical formulas. 2. Students will understand that the composition of substances can be represented in a variety of ways: chemical formula, empirical formula, molecular formula, or molar mass. 3. Students will be able to identify the structure of molecules by identifying the number and types of atoms in a molecule using physical properties such as melting point and boiling point
