Course Description This course focuses on listening and speaking techniques that are necessary to acquire a basic command of the English language. Speaking is taught in terms of explicit expectations and communicative strategies (e.g., questions, statements, reports), while listening is taught in terms of explicit expectations and communicative strategies for understanding spoken English. In both cases, communication is the focus. Therefore, some forms of research-based teaching may be used (e.g., videotaping and/or field observations) to supplement more traditional classroom instruction
