This course is designed to facilitate students to apply for and conduct their Doctoral Dissertation Research in an academic setting. This course is designed to facilitate students to apply for and conduct their Doctoral Dissertation Research in an academic setting. 4 hours of lecture per week, for a total of 24 hours per week, over 10 weeks, including the actual oral defense. EDU951 Course Outline

1. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES This course is designed to help advanced doctoral students in education develop the skills necessary for conducting a successful dissertation research project. It covers both scientific and ethical concerns related to conducting this research, as well as other aspects of the doctoral experience such as teaching and advising, and aspects of professional development relevant to doctoral work in education. The course will be delivered via synchronous online delivery, using an interactive learning platform. The same content will be delivered through both synchronous and asynchronous methods

This course is offered as part of the following degree programs: Master of Education (M.Ed.) – Secondary Curriculum and Pedagogy Program

Master of Education (M.Ed.) – Special Education In this course students complete a 12-18 credit hour dissertation. Dissertation topics should be chosen from the topic list provided by the advisor, and are expected to be completed within two years of admission. If students choose not to complete a dissertation, they will be required to take EDU901 in order to complete

EDU951 Course Learning Outcomes

This course is designed to provide an in-depth investigation of the scholarly and professional aspects of the dissertation process. Students will develop a project to be completed over the course of three terms. The student will be required to submit a research proposal as well as a short dissertation prospectus (one 12-15 pages) by the beginning of their third term. A minimum grade of C is required for all courses in this sequence; students will receive up to 3 credits for participation in this seminar.

EDU951 Course Assessment & Grading Criteria

This course assesses students’ ability to integrate knowledge and concepts they learned in EDU 951, such as the role of critical thinking in educational practice, ethical considerations in health care, and leadership development in a clinical setting. Students will develop a Dissertation Colloquium II proposal and complete a scholarly project designed to address the scope of work for the dissertation. A minimum of 60% is required for credit.
