EDU950 Course Objectives

The primary purpose of this course is to provide students with an opportunity to complete a dissertation (doctoral seminar) based on the student’s area of expertise. The dissertation proposal, the research design and the actual project must be approved by the student’s faculty advisor in consultation with the Dean and the chair of the department prior to beginning work on their dissertation. Students will present and defend their proposed topic at a colloquium, open to all faculty, staff, and students, with approval by the Dean.

The Dissertation Colloquium is a culminating experience for the entire cohort of 950 students. It is scheduled in the final weeks of the fall and spring semesters, usually with an oral defense of the dissertation prospectus at one of two times: at 9am on a Friday (after the second week of classes) or at 1pm on a Saturday (after the last week of classes).
