Course Description This course introduces and explores the ethics in schools and the professional standards of accountability for teachers. It discusses how a wide range of situations may arise in the teaching environment, both related to ethical decision-making and issues which may arise in connection with legal regulations. The course examines how these situations are generally resolved by judicial, administrative, or other means, including collective bargaining; and it compares two very different approaches to resolving such disputes – a procedure of negotiated settlement, or an alternative process based on arbitration.

This is a new course for fall 2017. Open only to students with past EDU610 experience who have successfully completed 10 credits of graduate coursework at UNCG. Students in the Master of Education (MEd) are required to complete a minimum of 15 credits of upper division electives, including an additional internship.
