The aim of this course is to prepare students to undertake research in a qualitative or mixed methods approach which suits their interests and areas of expertise. They will also develop skills in choosing appropriate methodologies and appropriate data collection

EDPD751 Course Description

A course for training and developing the skills necessary to conduct action research in an educational competency-based system. Topics include: ethics, planning, conducting, documenting, and evaluating action research in a systematic way; identifying and selecting appropriate topics; securing funding; developing a research plan; setting goals and objectives; developing and implementing the research question; collecting data; analyzing data; critiquing data; writing an action research report; implementing action research in practice settings. Prerequisite(s): EDPD753 or equivalent

EDPD751 Course Objectives

1. Describe and apply systems-thinking, a theory that emphasizes the interconnection of all components of an education program in both theoretical and practical ways.
2. Describe and apply elements of real-world activities, including intercultural awareness, personal/social skills, critical thinking and analysis, reasoning skills, problem-solving techniques, leadership skills, communication skills, ethics and integrity.
3. Identify and describe the essential roles of various stakeholders (i.e., families, community members, government agencies) in providing educational opportunities

EDPD751 Course Pre-requisites

is a stand-alone course. It may be taken in conjunction with EDPD750 – Action Research I (EDPD750). To take EDPD751, you must have completed EDPD750. Take Note: Enrollment in this class cannot be used as a prerequisite for taking EDPD751.
