The purpose of the EDDR619 course is to provide a more indepth examination of how teachers and the school system can effectively use data to improve student achievement. Students will learn how teachers and principals can collect, evaluate, and make use of data. Students will also be able to develop an action plan for improving their school’s learning environment by using data. 2.0 credits (1.0 lecture and 1.0 lab)
EDGR619 may be taken for academic credit in addition to or instead of EDGR638 – Adult Education and Career Development; however, the latter course cannot be counted towards a B.S. in Human Development.

EDGR619 Course Duration & Credits
Course Description This course provides an opportunity for teachers to participate in supervised teaching and learning experiences in schools. It offers a variety of models for the supervision of teachers. Students will be expected to complete written work, including participation in class discussions and assignments, along with a research paper. In order to graduate from this course students must pass the National Board certification exam (NCATE) and have a 2.0 GPA or better.

Understand the qualities and responsibilities of effective supervision, evaluation, and professional growth of teacher leaders in any educational setting. 3. Recognize how to use reflective practice as a way to analyze data on students’ learning and well-being.

50% Class participation (10%) 30% Project: Professional Development Plan (EDGR619) 30% Final project with teacher evaluation grades. The final grade will be determined by the student’s portfolio of evidence, in addition to their work in the EDGR619 course.

Fall 2013. The goal of this course is to explore the nature of the role of teachers in schools and their professional responsibilities as they relate to student learning and teacher development. Students will develop a strong theoretical foundation for school based leadership and conduct a research project that can be completed in a six-week period. This is an online course.
