Overview: This course will provide an overview of the role and responsibilities of the assessment practitioner, how to plan and implement assessments, and considerations for evaluating the impact of assessment on students. In addition to providing background information on assessment, this course explores current trends in assessment within higher education, including a detailed discussion about the value of formative assessments for students and about current national initiatives related to student success. 1. A student will be able to understand the differences between multiple sources of data, including written and verbal (including self-report) data, in order to design and conduct an assessment of teaching and learning.

2. A student will be able to determine the appropriate assessment methods for various situations.
