The course is designed to cover the major techniques used by terrorism analysts to counterterrorism as well as some of the key organizations that have been involved in counterterrorism. Particular emphasis is placed on gathering intelligence and extracting information from terrorist networks and their members. The course will also include an overview of the US response to the attacks of 9/11, including the use of drones. Student Objectives: The objectives of this course are to provide a thorough understanding of the major techniques used by law enforcement to prevent and investigate terrorist attacks, such as counterterrorism. Students will examine key domestic and international terrorist cases, as well as relevant legislative and regulatory changes. The students will become familiar with techniques for investigation, detection, interdiction, and prosecution. This course will also develop the students’ ability to analyze and evaluate case evidence in order to draw effective inferences based on both objective and
CJ469 Course Pre-requisites
This course will teach students how to identify, assess and prevent threats to national security. The course will emphasize both legal and ethical aspects of counterterrorism in relation to the tools and techniques used by criminal justice professionals. The primary focus will be on identifying threats to national security, assessing those threats, creating contingency plans for the possible effects of such threats on the future of U.S. and international security, and developing strategies for responding to future terrorist attacks.
