AV490 Course Introduction
This course is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in an aviation environment. The objective is to prepare students for entry-level positions in the aviation industry. Students will work under the supervision of a mentor to complete a variety of aircraft operations, maintenance, and related tasks. The technical knowledge base gained from this course is essential to future aviation careers.
This curriculum includes foundational knowledge and skills necessary for entry-level employment within the aviation industry.

AV490 Course Description
(2016-17)
This course provides students with an opportunity to integrate aviation knowledge and skills gained in the classroom with practical work in the field. Students will be exposed to a wide variety of aviation jobs and functions, including: aircraft flight operations, air traffic control, emergency medical services, airport management, flight planning and crew scheduling, navigation charts and publications, technical support at an airfield or within an airline’s corporate maintenance department, and airport facility layout.

The aim of this course is to provide students with an opportunity to develop the skills necessary to assist in the design and operation of aircraft. Students will be provided with professional experience in a flying environment, working towards a minimum of four hours per week for the duration of the course.
1. Identify and describe the structures and components involved in aircraft including their sizes, components, materials, loads, stresses and deflections.
