A computer file format for storing and exchanging genetic sequence information. The NCBI BOLD format (nucleotide-binding site [NBS], leucine-rich repeat [LRR], short-repeat [SR], and small nuclear RNA [snRNA]) is a data standard for nucleic acid sequence data.

Short repeats, called flanking regions, are found in genes, ribosomal RNA (rRNA), transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and in DNA binding domains of transcription factors.
