This course aims to develop fundamental computer science research skills using practical examples from a wide range of areas. Topics include computational geometry, graph theory, numerical analysis, linear algebra and optimization. The course is designed for students with a background in mathematics or the equivalent who wish to apply their mathematical training to computational problems in engineering, economics and biology. Throughout the course, students will be expected to analyze numerical problems in groups and present their results.
