Midterm Self-Reflection Presentation Instructions

Self-Reflection Paper is an exercise intended to prompt you to engage in the process of reflective learning while demonstrating self-awareness, self-evaluation, and the ability to develop a specific action plan that will aid you in improving your knowledge and understanding of the counseling profession and your own personal counselor identity. You will complete this assignment in correlation with the Student Midterm Evaluation completed by your approved supervisor.

This paper must be 3-4 pages in length.

The assignment must address the following areas: Strengths and Weaknesses, Areas of Personal Growth, and Action Plan. It is highly recommended that you develop an outline or write your thoughts in order to articulate them with clarity when you make a verbal presentation in your group supervision.

Strengths and Weaknesses

You will begin the assignment by identifying at least 3 professional strengths and at least 3 professional weaknesses that you have identified or that were noted by the supervisor. You should consider how you became aware of these strengths and weaknesses throughout the first half of the Practicum experience. Examples may include but are not limited to: timeliness, phone or email etiquette, professional dress, professional language, and poor use of specific counseling skills or techniques.

Areas of Personal Growth

You will then describe 3 areas you wish or need to focus on for personal growth in your counseling identity for the remainder of the semester. You should develop specific goals for each of the described areas. These goals may be related to your identified weaknesses. Examples may include, but are not limited to: confidence, humility, openness to feedback, empathy, and listening skills.

Action Plan

You will close the presentation by articulating a specific action plan in order to reach each of the named goals throughout the remainder of the semester as well as through continued studies in the graduate program. You should also elaborate on what could help to reach these goals (e.g.: resources, support systems, accountability, etc.). It is important to discuss the potential challenges or road blocks that may be encountered in reaching the named goals and what can be done to overcome these challenges or roadblocks.
