Course Description: The purpose of this course is to present an overview of the economic principles behind health economics, including the determinants of health and health care spending, health expenditures in the U.S. and internationally, measurement and interpretation of healthcare costs, and the impact of government policies on health care spending and outcomes. Class meetings will consist primarily of lectures that will include discussion exercises on some of the topics we will study. All interested students should attend all lectures but are not required to do so. The

This course is an introduction to health economics. It provides a broad overview of the important concepts that influence health and illness, including the role of public policy in shaping health and health care delivery. This course will explore how society is organized and its relationship to health and illness. Health care costs will be examined as they relate to the various stakeholders, along with the evolution of healthcare delivery systems.
