The paper should be typed, double-spaced, and 7-9 pages long excluding references) It should include a Reference page, and all sources for material should be clearly cited. The cover page, abstract page, and the first page of the reference section are included in the total page count. The number of citations may not exceed 12, but 4 is the minimum.
In writing your paper, references should be based on published refereed
journal articles, books, and government publications. If you employ
information from the Internet, make sure that it is from reputable and
credible sources. Refrain from using internet web pages that are not
officially sponsored, since the internet is not regulated, and the quality of sites
cannot always be determined. Blog posts and Wikipedia are NOT valid
sources. Only scientific peer-reviewed journal articles, books, and

government, international, and NGO or ‘Think Tank’ publications are
permitted. Reports from entities, such as the United Nations, Eurostat, the
European Union, Statistics Canada, US Bureau of the Census, CDC,
WHO, NCHS, Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Population Reference
Bureau, Department of Homeland Security (and its components, such as
ICE, USCIS, CBP) may be used. Reports by ‘think tanks’ and policy-oriented institutions and centers, such as the Brookings Institution, the
Urban League, ACLU, National Organization for Women, RAND, PEW
Hispanic Center, National Council of La Raza, Southern Poverty Law
Center, and so on may also be used.
When searching for articles or documents, instead of Google, use Google
Scholar (scholar.google.com). The paper should be an in-depth
examination of some major issues about gender. It should demonstrate that
you are familiar with the relevant research and that you understand the
issues and controversies involved. Your own original thinking, or your
ability to offer some sort of critique, may be most helpful but your own
thoughts should not be used as a substitute for adequate research. A
minimum of a half-dozen scholarly sources should be cited (e.g. books,
journal articles). You can also cite newspapers – Time, Newsweek, Atlantic
Monthly, the New York Times, and Wall Street Journal often have excellent
articles – so long as you have the minimum number of scholarly references
(12).
