Course Description: Surveying is the profession of making precise measurements and computations using measuring instruments. Surveying technicians are employed in numerous areas including civil engineering, construction, land surveying, forestry, recreation and utility companies. This course provides students with an understanding of how to use basic technology and measurement equipment to collect information on a specific area or object. Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Identify the tools used for surveying. 2.

CSM280 Course Overview The Surveying discipline is one of the key disciplines in planning and managing a civil engineering project. This course will examine the surveying process through reading, interpretation, and evaluation of topographic maps; computations; and computer-aided design techniques used for surveying and mapping. The technical applications of geomatics are also introduced to help students understand how they can contribute to future land use planning. Field work will be included to provide real-world applications to Geomatics applications.
